Snow Day!

End of last week, we had a “snow” day here in Austin and I had not enjoyed one of those since I was in high school!  Firstly, I was reminded of what a weather wimp I’ve become since living in Los Angeles for seven years.  Secondly, I was lost… what shall I do on my snow day?  Be a sloth or be productive??  Thirdly, I ventured out my door and upon stepping back inside, Mr. Giles just about freaked his furry britches off when he met SNOW for the first time.  (Why do I never have my iPhone ready for photos or video when these things happen?!?)  Coming from Michigan where winter can really bite you in the keister, this bonus day off was rather laughable… until I saw news stories about how the ice ground central and southern Texas to a halt.  Thankful that I was able to stay home where it was warm and safe, I first enjoyed a leisurely breakfast while chuckling at a Reddit thread about how a notable stretch of road by the library (my office) had completely devolved into icemaggedon.

Once I grew tired of the novelty of my snow day, I decided to start ticking items off my list of things to do (three cheers!).  Top of the list was to finish a couple of new pillows for my sofa.  The last round of pillows I made didn’t have enough overlap at the envelope closure so I took the time to re-do my math for my new pillows (I may re-do the first set again later).  I used the same Diana Rupp tutorial and sewed these with some clean French seams on the inside.  It was an easy project and perfect for an unexpected afternoon of free time!

Now I have coordinating pillows on my sofa that also matches a diamond-shaped motif on my Moroccan area rug.  It’s awesome how something so simple can make a room finally feel complete!
